Headphone Amps
This page is headphone amp circuits that worked well for me.
Headbanger Headphone Amp
This design has been around for awhile but this little amp does a pretty good job compared to other circuits I tried that included the LM386 opamp.
The original project was intended to be in your pocket to boost the output of your portable cassette tape player :o
I made it more of a desktop type headphone amp so you can use a 9 volt pedal power supply and it drives the old pair of Sennheiser headphones I use quite nicely.
You can learn all about the original project Here
Originally I built this to play music through from the phone or pc but since then I was experimenting and tried something.
I was looking for a quicker way to hear what new pedal circuits were sounding like so I did half of this circuit on a breadboard
Plugged my guitar in and my headphones in to see if it would work and it did, could even run pedals through it.
I put together a 3.5mm stereo jack for the headphones so I had sound on both sides
So I was going to enclose it in something and use it for testing but it got me thinking, I already had the Headbanger built...
I'll have to get a picture of the headbanger on here, I have left / right RCA jacks (was for my sons pc setup) for input and 3.5mm stereo output
I have a cord that goes from 3.5mm stereo to RCA that I use for my setups, why can't I make a cable that goes from mono male guitar to RCA jacks
So that's what I did, ground to ground and left / right to tip
This works quite well for seeing what things sound like without having to hook up to an amp, right from the breadboard at the bench.
